Micky van de Ven found the net on two occasions as Spurs extended their winning streak on the road in the top division and handed Everton their first defeat at their new home.

The Toffees were unbeaten in their last five matches at their new ground at Bramley-Moore Dock, having left their historic home behind after 133 years at the conclusion of the previous campaign.

But Tottenham's leader the Dutchman struck twice from set-pieces in the first half to put their strong form at jeopardy, and they were failed to turn it around before Pape Matar Sarr - assisted by former Toffees attacker Richarlison - nodded in a third to seal the victory.

The Everton defender thought he had equalized the tally five minutes after the defender's opener, directing a bullet header past Guglielmo Vicario from an Everton corner.

The Portuguese striker, in the meantime, missed a number of chances, while the Italian goalkeeper made a series of fine stops to ensure the London club went five away games unbeaten in the English top flight.

But the VAR stepped in, advising Craig Pawson to review the score on the pitchside monitor and the referee decided that Jack Grealish and the attacker were in an illegal position and had impeded with the Tottenham goalkeeper.

The win moves Thomas Frank's side up to third in the Premier League, five points off local foes and leaders the Gunners.

The Merseyside club stay 14th and are half a dozen points clear of the relegation zone.

Spurs breakdown: The defender excels in role at both ends of the field

After a uninspiring weekday display in the Champions League against the French side, where they managed a only two shots on target, the manager chose Randal Kolo Muani in attack instead of ex-Everton forward the Brazilian.

Everton's new home had been a fortress, but it seems the novelty may have worn off somewhat and supporters flocked to the gates after the midfielder's final goal for Tottenham.

The break in the team's unbeaten home run will not be a major worry for the manager, but their striker situation are.

The forward and the other striker - the Toffees' two recognised centre-forwards - had netted only one league goal between them before Sunday's match.
